2002.0801 (Thursday) Painted Board, Los Angeles

2002.0802 (Friday) Go Away, Santa Monica
This house has a chalk board, inscribed with such lovely script, "If You Weren't Invited, Bye!"

Closeup of the chalk board.

2002.0803 (Saturday) Hard Rock Guitar, Universal City
The lab managed to put a crease right through the middle of this one.

2002.0804 (Sunday) Work, Santa Monica
Damn, at work on a Sunday.
Also creased.

2002.08085 (Monday) Squirrel, Santa Monica
The main problem with feeling a compulsion to yell "SQUIRREL" every time I see one is that it makes them awfully difficult to sneak up on.
There is a squirrel in there. Really.

2002.0806 (Tuesday) Mirror, Los Angeles
Someone in my apartment building got a new closet door, I think.

2002.0807 (Wednesday) Beware of the Dog, Santa Monica
OOOH, I'm so scared.

2002.0808 (Thursday) Animal Hospital, Santa Monica
Yeah, when my cat is sick, this is where she wants to go, I'm sure of it.

2002.0809 (Friday) Shopping Carts, Santa Monica
The building in the background houses offices for Revolution studios. If you care.

2002.0810 (Saturday) Billboard, Hollywood
Across the street fromt he fabulous (and still relatively new) Amoeba Records I saw this billboard. It's rare to see a bare billboard in Los Angeles. This must have been a tagger's dream.
But I have no idea what it means.

2002.0811 (Sunday) No Parking, Los Angeles
O.K. I won't park on top of the gate.
This can't be for real. The sign is broken, it's just kind of propped up there - and besides, that's someone's parking spot right in front of the sign.

2002.0812 (Monday) Outer Space
Monday morning was the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, and I stayed out all night to watch. I didn't manage to get any meteor shots, but I experimented with some long-exposure shots. This is how far the stars move in the sky over the course of about an hour.

2002.0813 (Tuesday) Another Painted Board, Los Angeles
While I was taking this picture, I was approached by this guy. He kind of freaked me out.

HIM: Sir, what are you doing?
ME: Taking pictures of the trash.
    HIM: Why?
ME: I think it looks interesting.
    HIM: You think it's interesting?
    ME: Yeah.
HIM: You know who's been messing up the trash?
    ME: No.
HIM: The guys who come looking for cans.
    ME: Yeah?
    (pause)
ME: Is there a problem with me taking pictures of the trash?
HIM: No, I thought you were going to take them somewhere. I'm the manager here.
ME: Oh, no. I just want pictures for myself.
    HIM: OK, buddy.

2002.0814 (Wednesday) Graffiti Door, Los angeles
I think it's a pirate.
A cyclops pirate.
With a dark cloud follwing him around.
Poor cyclops pirate.

2002.0815 (Thursday) Video Tapes & Barbie Dolls, Santa Monica
What else do you need for a party?

2002.0816 (Friday) Hydrant, Santa Monica

2002.0817 (Saturday) Please Excuse Us For The Inconvenience, Glendale
I have no idea what they are talking about. Sure, the ground was a bit wet, but I wasn't wearing my sugarcube shoes.

2002.0818 (Sunday) Westside Pavillion, Los Angeles
Standing on a shaky pedestrian walkway connecting the two halves of this shopping mall always makes me nervous. But I think this is what West L.A. is all about.

2002.0819 (Monday) Cat Dish, Santa Monica
Franklin Street is pretty much infested by cats. I don't know if this dish belongs to one in particular, but it generally sits out on the sidewalk.

20020820 (Tuesday) Homeless Shopping Cart 2, Santa Monica
Actually, it's probably the same cart as the earlier one.

20020821 (Wednesday) Corner, Santa Monica
I like how this looks like the building was made from modeling clay by a spastic.

200208222 (Thursday) Mailboxes, Los Angeles
Pico Boulevard, right in front of the DVD store where I spend way too much money.

20020823 (Friday) Man At Work, Los Angeles
I apologize profusely for this picture.

20020824 (Saturday) Hotel Balcony, Palm Springs
I was in Palm Springs. Really. See the palm tree?
This is a pinhole photo, by the way.

20020825 (Sunday) Highway, Palm Springs
Returning home from Palm Springs.
That's one of California's wind farms on the right.
And goodness knows they have enough wind there.

20020826 (Monday) Bug Bomb, Santa Monica
Actually, I think it's a trap. To monitor med flies or mosquitos or some such. They suddenly appeared all over the place, then disapeared shortly thereafter.

20020827 (Tuesday) Canadian Party Jack, Santa Monica
My boss doesn't know I took a picture of his car.

20020828 (Wednesday) Mirrorball Angel, Santa Monica
These angels appeared all over L.A. about a year ago.
Big so-called art project.
The promo lit says it's the most successful art project ever. Or something like that.
They're supposed to go away soon. I can't wait.

20020829 (Thursday) Plastic Bag In Tree, Santa Monica
I think it's nesting.

20020830 (Friday) Skateboard, Santa Monica
There's a joke here about extreme sports gone bad, but I can't quite find it.

20020831 (Saturday) Generator, Hollywood
This was just sitting on the sidewalk near Wacko, the coolest store in Hollywood.
It didn't seem to be in use, but clearly no one had returned it to "LN HGTS" yet.
