20020901 (Sunday) Coffee Pot, Los Angeles
I caught it trying to run away.

20020902 (Monday) Alex Theater, Glendale
Aside from the spire, it doesn't look like much, but this is actually one of the nicer theaters in Southern California. They show movies, do stage shows, and so on.

20020903 (Tuesday) Garbage Chair, Santa Monica
I find the most interesting stuff among these dumpsters.

20020904 (Wednesday) Sneakers, Santa Monia
More interesting garbage.

20020905 (Thursday) Hollywood & Highland, Hollywood
I attended the Windows Media Technical Summit, held at the relativley new Hollywood & Highland complex on Hollywood Boulevard.
Other than the Kodak theater, built to be the new home of the Academy Awards, it's pretty much a themed shopping mall
The thing is, it's design is based on a movie that almost nobody who visits have ever seen!
But I do like the elephants.

20020906 (Friday) Hollywood & Highland 2, Hollywood
I love the sky in this picture.
The elephants are just to the right of the frame.
I'm not sure that in Intolerance, the figure on the right is wearing a watch or carrying a shopping bag. I'd have to check on that.

Actually, I'm surprised that *ahem* certain people haven't complained loudly about the selection of the theme for the whole complex.
After all, D.W. Griffith's other well-known film, Birth Of A Nation, is a much-maligned, racist disaster of a movie.
It wouldn't matter to *ahem* certain people that Griffith was a brilliant filmmaker, responsible for inventing much of what we take for granted in films today.
Nor would it matter that he made Intolerance to convince people that he wasn't a horrible person, and that the whole point of the film is to denounce the very thing that *ahem* certain people themselves condemn.
But maybe my cynicism is unwarranted, as no one has complained loudly enough for me to hear it.

20020907 (Saturday) Tower, Pepperdine University
The rest of the campus fits in with the landscaping so nicely, this is kind of odd just sticking up from the middle of nowhere.
But it's still kind of cool looking.

20020908 (Sunday) Plaque, Disneyland
Ahh, Disneyland.

20020909 (Monday) Found In The Ivy, Santa Monica
This photo makes me very glad I had black-and-white film in the camera.

20020910 (Tuesday) Lamp, Los Angeles
Another good black-and-white photo.
Am I taking too many pictures of trash? What does this say about me?

20020911 (Wednesday) Cat, Santa Monica
I don't have much luck photographing cats. But this one was particularly patient.

20020912 (Thursday) The Reconnection, Santa Monica
Street spam.
It went away the next day, so either someone cleaned it up or someone wanted to be reconnected.

20020913 (Friday) Big Bird Corn Flakes, Santa Monica
More trash.
I didn't stage this. Really.

20020914 (Saturday) Hot Diggity Dog, Los Angeles
Actually, it's not a Hot Diggity Dog any more.
It's going to be a Coffee Bean And Tea Leaf drive though.
Because you can't even expect people to walk the two blocks (average) to the nearest coffee shop, can you?

20020915 (Sunday) Lion Rug, Los Angeles
Sundays are always the hardest to find pictures.
This one is pretty lame.

20020916 (Monday) Concrete Wall, Santa Monica
If only the nearest truck were turned around.

20020917 (Tuesday) Cat, Santa Monica
Same walkway, different cat. Also very cooperative.

20020918 (Wednesday) Tree Work Ahead, Santa Monica
You can't see them here, but there are indeed men working in the trees there.

20020919 (Thursday) Cable, Los Angeles
Anyone need any coaxial cable?

20020920 (Friday) Chimney Starter, Santa Monica
Company BBQ.
I kind of volunteered to help organize the food.
I kind of refused to do bad food: frozen burger patties, cheap hot dogs, etc.
People seemed to enjoy it, so I'll probably get roped into doing it again next year.

20020921 (Saturday) Door, Los Angeles
Anyone need a door? It's white and locks, but does not come with a knob.

20020922 (Sunday) Silent Movie Theater, Los Angeles
The SMT is one of the treasures of Los Angeles. The only theater devoted to silent movies in the U.S., every weekend they show silent films with live musical accompaniment.
Lately they've been showing more Harold Lloyd films, which I really love. Don't get me wrong, I love Keaton (more) and Chaplin (less), but there's something about Lloyd that I can't get enough of.
I think it's his mixture of everyman and innocent that no other silent film comedians was ever quite able to capture.
Chaplin is too British - too prim and proper, even when playing a tramp.
Keaton is too knowing.
Arbuckle is just a smidgen too mean.
Langdon has the innocent thing down, but he is just plain creepy.
I just find that I really want to know Harold Lloyd when I watch his movies. He seems like he would be a swell fellow to hang out with.

20020923 (Monday) Fly Trap, Los Angeles
Why is it called "Rescue!" fly trap? What are they rescuing the flies from?

20020924 (Tuesday) Autumn, Santa Monica
Yeah. This is about as close as we get to autumn in Southern California.
Autumn, that is, in the whole leaves-turning-red, air-getting-crisp sense.
The only plant that predictably turn red in the fall is the poison oak. Probably meant to help it blend in - but it only works if all the other plants turn, too.
Once in the fall, I was once in Virginia, where they have autumn. All the leaves turned one day (at least that's what it seemed like) and my Theron-sense tingled, saying "Quidado! Hay poison oak!" but it was just the trees.

20020925 (Wednesday) Corona Time, Los Angeles
It seems there are always bottles of some sort on top of this box, which in theory contains a fire extinguisher.
They never stay long, though, as the homeless people take them to the recycler center.

20020926 (Thursday) Straw Hat, Los Angeles
This is my favorite picture in a while.
Makes me glad I had color film in the camera.

20020927 (Friday) Happy B-Day, Russ, Los Angeles
Another nice photo.
I wonder what Russ got for his birthday.

20020928 (Saturday) Volkswagen, Santa Monica
There are always new VW's in this lot.
I've never seen one quite like this, though.

20020929 (Sunday) School, Culver City
The picture is not backwards.
The kids just put up the letters backwards.
I guess they still have a lot to learn.

20020930 (Monday) Cat And Dog, Santa Monica
This walkway appears in more of these photos than any other place, I think.
And this is the second time the cat has appeared.
I think the dog was just visiting, though.
